ISIN is short for "International Securities Identification Number" and is a 12-character alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies securities globally.

Every ISIN code is exactly 12 characters, split into parts that each encode something specific. Those rules are hard to read by eye. The validator on this page breaks any code into its parts and labels what each one means.

ISIN codes are issued by National Numbering Agencies (NNAs), overseen by the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) under the ISO 6166 standard. One authority and one shared standard are what let the same code identify the same instrument across markets and data providers.
